In the Flesland (Bergen) printing centre, Norwegian newspaper printer Schibsted Trykk has equipped two TTR forwarding stations from Swiss mailroom manufacturer Ferag with modern drive and control technology. Norwegian software specialist Realcom was given the go-ahead for the upgrade. Working with the German company Sermograph GmbH & Co. KG, Realcom has replaced all the electronics, the DC drives and the old motors with a state-of-the-art control system incorporating frequency converters and resolvers. All newly installed components are standardized modules that are freely available on the market. The direct drives are from Lenze SE, the well-known manufacturer of drive solutions and automation systems. The forwarding stations are now operated via a touch screen on the newspaper printing machine control console. Realcom has developed a new graphic user interface for this purpose.

Thanks to the Realcom upgrade, Schibsted Trykk will be able to use the existing TTR conveyor technology for years to come. The alternative to a retrofit would have been replacement with new forwarding stations and associated conveyor technology. Apart from much higher investment costs, this option would have resulted in interrupted production due to building alterations and changes to the channel guides. Thanks to the Realcom solution, Schibsted Trykk has been able to publish the newspapers on time each day, despite the ongoing retrofit work.
