FoldLine and FormerLine conquer the printing industry

29.09.2015 – manroland web systems has successfully expanded its competencies at the digital printing sector. By using their standing know-how, the company developed finishing modules for digital printing like the pin folder FoldLine or FormerLine. The systems are designed for the production of book blocks as well as commercial products but also for newspaper printing. Additionally, manroland web systems offers workflow and networking software packages that enable the integration of these solutions to any web-based digital printing system. Today, many customers all around the world benefit from this.

The manroland web systems folding solutions for digital printing show numerous advantages. From an ideal productivity via a high reliability and small folding tolerances/production deviations up to a dynamic change of signature setups (pages) and book structure without downtimes of the press whilst the production and a dynamic adjustment of the cut-off – there is a solution for every requirement.

FoldLine und FormerLine – Fitting all Demands
The fully automatic, multi-variable pin folder FoldLine from manroland web systems is the ideal finishing tool for e. g. the digital production of newspapers. It offers the possibility to produce broadsheet and tabloid newspapers, short and long grain, with different structures. Therewith, it secures an ideal usage of all benefits of a digital printing of newspapers and commercial products. The FoldLine enables the production of up to 12 newspaper sections or maximum 96 pages. Therewith, for the reader the digitally printed newspaper has the same look-and-feel like the offset paper he is used to. Anyhow, the FoldLine is a system for diverse applications and segments. Besides newspapers, also commercial products and direct mailings can be produced.

With the second finishing system, FormerLine, for the digital book production of small and smallest runs, manroland web systems developed a special roll-to-book-block solution. The company’s know-how, especially in building complex folding systems, therewith enters another business sector. The FormerLine offers variable page numbers for book signatures due to flexible former positioning that are especially designed for digital book production. Additional equipment is a booklet finishing system with collator from manroland web systems.

Convincing Technology and Workflow Competence
Many customers already have opted for the solutions from manroland web systems: The FoldLine e. g. produces at Rotolito Lombarda in Mailand. Furthermore, the system is part of a digital workflow at Mengis Druck AG in Switzerland. There, the first completely digitally printed newspaper is produced as a world premiere – a highlight, for which manroland web systems did not only deliver the finishing system but also the networking software that integrates the workflow and enables a smooth production.

Meanwhile, the FormerLine produces on almost every continent. No matter if at LEGRA in Poland, CPI in Germany, Hucais in China or FTD in Brazil – customers everywhere is convinced by the efficient finishing solution. Besides books and educational books also calendars are produced.

The digital inline finishing furthermore evolves rapidly: with the FoldLine and the FormerLine, manroland web systems has developed two systems for the industrial digital printing that find great acceptance and also many users worldwide. The company from Augsburg is confident: the digital printing of newspapers, advertising material and books will get more and more important. Therefore, matching systems and workflows will be developed and adjusted to the market demands – also in the future.
