Jörg Vogelsänger was born in Dortmund (Germany) and grew up in the Venezuelan capital Caracas. After graduating in communication studies at the FU Berlin he worked as a journalist in Venezuela, before joining dpa in 1994. Following his traineeship he joined dpa’s Spanish Service as an editor and later worked as a correspondent in Madrid. Jörg Vogelsänger has been in charge of the Foreign Services Desk since 2011; one year later he took over as Foreign Services Coordinator.
Cecilia Becaría, who will also take up her position as Senior Editor in Buenos Aires on January 1, is going to support Jörg Vogelsänger in his new position. The 41-year-old currently works as an editor at dpa internacional’s desk in Buenos Aires. Cecilia Becaría has been with dpa since 2004. Before joining, she worked as a freelance reporter for the Argentinian paper “Clarín”. She studied journalism in Montevideo (Uruguay).
Managing Editor Esteban Bayer (59) remains in charge of dpa’s Spanish Service. He is based in Berlin.
dpa Editor-in-Chief Sven Gösmann: “With Jörg Vogelsänger and Cecilia Becaría, two experienced agency journalists take over steering the news side of our Spanish Service. The strategic control remains in Esteban Bayer’s steady hands. This underlines that we want to expand our success in two markets that are important for us - Spain and Latin America - for example with new products like dpa fotografia, a product which launched with great success and which we will strengthen further.”
dpa internacional, with roughly 75 staff members in Spain and North, Central and South America is run with a main editorial desk in Madrid and regional editorial desk in Buenos Aires. It provides texts and photos for media and business clients in the Spanish-speaking world. Many stories are also translated and adapted for other services.
