Baden, Switzerland, April 23, 2018 – ABB has recently completed a control console upgrade at the Strasbourg print site of Dernieres Nouvelles D’Alsace (DNA) In France. The project is particularly interesting as it combines the very latest control console technology with the original ABB press control system that has been running since 1989.

ABB’s MPS Control Console.

The ABB control system on DNA’s Wifag OF7 press was installed when the press was new, almost 30 years ago, and has been running reliably since then. Despite the longevity of the system, the management at DNA has decided that the first steps of a modernization were required.

ABB’s newest release of the MPS Control Console, which is now running at the Strasbourg site, features touchscreen operation and is based on ABB’s Compact HMI. Not only does it replace the original consoles that were based on the Procontic DP800 system, but it also eliminates the need for a separate control desk for the Technotrans dampening system used on the press. The operation of the dampening system is now fully integrated into the MPS Control Console, which is a significant assistance to the printers.
