Borja Echevarría de la Gándara is Vice-president of Digital at Univision News, the leading cable news channel in Spanish in the United States, responsible for its digital strategy.

He started his career in journalism at the Spanish newspaper El Mundo in 1995. He worked in different sections of the daily and was editor-in-chief for sports until 2002 when he took the step into the digital world as Deputy Director of elmundo.es. During that period, elmundo.es became the leading Internet portal in Spanish worldwide. In 2007 leaves the paper and cofounds Soitu.es, a pioneering native media in Spain that rapidly achieved a great international prestige. The Online News Association awarded Soitu.es with the Excellence Award in 2008 and 2009. In 2010 Echevarría joins El País as Deputy Director. Under his responsibility, El País takes the Internet leadership from El Mundo, carries out a digital-first strategy and integrates the newsroom with a deep technological transformation at the same time.

In 2013 he wins the prestigious Nieman Fellowship from the University of Harvard, where also takes part of a Fellows group of the Berkman Center and where he spends one year studying how the disruptive innovation is changing the traditional media businesses and workflows. During that year at Harvard also works in a project on breaking news for mobiles at the MIT Media Lab.

In June 2014 Echevarría joins Univision.
