World Newspaper Week Brings Together Mega-Events: Congress, Forum, IFRA Expo

2011-04-06

The global summit meetings of the world's press have just gotten bigger: the World Newspaper Congress and World Editors Forum will both be held for the first time with the annual IFRA Expo, creating a mammoth Newspaper Week event in Vienna, Austria, from 10 to 15 October next.

The Congress and Editors Forum, which annually brings together more than 1,200 newspaper publishers, chief editors and other senior executives from more than 100 countries, will be held from 12 to 15 October, following the Expo, the largest annual trade exhibition for the global news publishing industry, which draws some 10,000 attendees, from 10-12 October.

The evolving programmes, registration details and other information for the Congress, Editors Forum, IFRA Expo and related events and can be found on the new "World Newspaper Week" website at http://www.worldnewspaperweek.org

"These events have long been the leading gatherings of the newspaper and publishing industries, and bringing them together in one venue is convenient and practical for everyone, " said Christoph Riess, CEO of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), the global organisation of the world's press created by the 2009 merger of the World Association of Newspapers and IFRA.

"These events have long traditions – six decades in the case of the Congress – and they will get a new boost this year by coming together, a beneficial result of the merger of these two great organisations," he said.

In addition to the IFRA Expo, 63rd World Newspaper Congress and 18th World Editors Forum, the events include: the 4th International Tablet and E-reading conference; the Power of Print Focus sessions; Media Port 2011; the annual Press Freedom and Young Reader roundtables; and much more.

The World Newspaper Congress focuses on newspaper business issues and is generally attended by publishers, CEO, Managing Directors and other senior newspaper executives. Its annual highlights include the annual World Press Trends and Innovations in Newspapers reports, plus presentations from leading newspaper executives from many markets.

Topics will include: the powers of brands and branding; digital publishing and digital revenue models; financial markets and investment strategies; new business opportunities and business models; the future of technology; and much more.

The World Editors Forum focuses on newsroom issues from multimedia organisation to quality journalism and is attended by chief editors and other senior newsroom personnel. Chief editors from around the world present their best cases and innovative practices for maintaining quality journalism and engaging audiences in the multimedia age.

Topics will include: media in the aftermath of revolution; Wikileaks; innovation and content for printed newspapers; newsroom integration; tablet applications; the newsroom perspective of paid content; community building; the future of journalism; and much more.

IFRA Expo is the world's largest trade exhibition for the news publishing industry, annually drawing more than 350 exhibitors with products and services for all publishing platforms. Last year's event drew more than 10,000 people to Hamburg, Germany.

A smaller exhibition, Info Services Expo 2010, will be held simultaneously with the Congress and Editors Forum.

As always, the events are accompanied by an array of social events, gala dinners and lunches and are considered to be the premier opportunity to meet colleagues from around the world.
