WAN-IFRA Ibérica 2011, the third edition of WAN-IFRA’s conference for the Ibero-American publishing community, will focus this year on new business models and feature prominent industry figures from Spain, the USA and elsewhere to share best practices, strategies, new ideas, and visions of the future.

“We are now finding, after the uncertainty of recent years, that our industry is reinvigorated and in transformation, eager to learn and grow," said José Maria Moreno, managing director WAN-IFRA Ibérica. "In a time when fear is giving way to development, innovation and pro-active investment in new projects are once again on the upswing.
“In this third edition of our conference, we will talk about how the industry is transforming within the digital environment. We will learn the importance of content, how we can innovate through advertising, and how to attract new readers.”
Conference highlights include:
- The Future of Media, by Juan Luis Cebrián, Chief Executive Officer of Grupo Prisa, the leading communication group in Spain, Portugal and Latin America, and Chairman of the Board of the newspaper El País, which he founded.
- Why journalism matters in a digital world, by Raju Narisetti, Managing Editor of The Washington Post. Prior to joining the Post, he was the founding editor of Mint, a business daily newspaper and website in India, published by HT Media Ltd., and previously was Editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe.
- A newspaper in transformation – case study: VG-Schibsted, by Espen Egil Hansen, Executive Editor of digital products at VG, Norway. Mr Hansen was previously the Editor-In-Chief of VG Multimedia and is a member board of the Spanish newspaper 20minutos.
- Making money in the digital world – Successful case studies in Portugal and Brazil, by Jaime Guarita, Independent Consultant at Cofina and former President of Reader's Digest for Portugal and Brazil.
- Multimedia Sales Survival – winning the future in ad sales! by Mike Blinder, President of The Blinder Group, USA, which has more than 350 media companies worldwide as clients, including Gannett, Media General, CanWest, Quebecor, Canada’s Globe and Mail, The New York Times Company, New Delhi’s Hindu Times, United Kingdom’s Northcliffe Newspapers and even El Tiempo of Colombia.
- Trends in income generation in the digital world, by Otto Sjöberg, President of Media(r)evolution and consultant at WAN-IFRA.
- Out-of-the-box advertising – The weather bet and more, by Martin Wunnike, Business Manager of Mittelbayerische Zeitung, Germany. The MBZ is the leading regional newspaper in Bavaria, with some 400,000 daily readers and, thanks to its original advertising ideas and events, has succeeded in increasing its circulation and generating new revenues.
- Strategies for the future of media, by Alan Stoga, Founder and President of Zemi Communications, USA. Mr Stoga specialises in strategy development, management consultancy and management of business resources.
- Is the Internet irreconcilable with traditional media and publishers? by Antonio González Barros, Founder and President of Group Intercom, Spain, which successfully launched more than 50 Internet business sites (Softonic, Infojobs, eMagister, etc.) in diverse online areas.
- Positive deviants and the agents of change, by Inmaculada Martínez, Partner at Opus Corporate Finance, U.K., and one of the world’s top strategic specialists in the digital media industry, according to Time and Fortune magazines.
The conference will be held in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, with simultaneous translation.
