2017-03-30 WAN-IFRA’s World Printers Forum just published its latest report “Print-Online Performance Gap”. Just when one thought the old print vs. digital debate was no longer useful, along comes a study to stir the flames. Despite having been written off countless times in the past, the printed newspaper stubbornly refuses to die. It is astounding to witness the tenacity with which the more than 400-years-old news medium asserts itself in the digital era. The study doesn’t outright suggest that publishers abandon their digital efforts, rather, to play to the strengths of where newspapers’ audience and revenues mostly reside. 2017-03-27 International media leaders have signalled their deep concern with the US administration’s persistent attacks on the press by calling on US President Donald Trump to halt his ‘fake news’ accusations and to ensure White House briefings remain accessible to all media. A letter, sent to the US administration, firmly rejects President Trump’s repeated accusation that media is the ‘enemy of the American People’, and calls on his administration to build a better professional relationship with the media. 2017-02-20 45 women senior journalists and editors from across South East Asia gathered in Yangon on 16 February to hear from leading women media on the topic of ‘breaking through’, and take part in newsroom management training led by WAN-IFRA Women in News lead trainer Paula Fray. Norwegian Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Tone Tinnes opened the meeting, emphasising Norway and WAN-IFRA's long-standing cooperation on strengthening independent media in the region, which has now extended to gender equality, a priority for Norway. 2017-01-23 WAN-IFRA announces the call for nominations for the Women in News Editorial Leadership Award. Launched in conjunction with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the award recognises the exemplary contribution of an Editor to her newsroom and, under her leadership, the contribution of her news organisation to society. Two women will be recognised for their leadership in 2017, one from sub-Saharan Africa and one from the Middle East and North Africa. Read more ...
