Summary

With 300,000 sq. feet of exhibition space, 260 exhibitors and 14,000 registered attendants the 59th annual ANPA Technical Exposition and Conference (formerly: Production Management Conference) which took place in Las Vegas from June 6th to 10th had already broken significant records before it started. What the figures cannot reflect however is how lively ANPA’s traditional event turned out to be this year. American newspapers are obviously in the midst of a wave of re-equipment in all areas of production, thus expressing their renewed optimism in the future of the press. The competition for topicality, the pressure of costs in all areas, the growing demand for colour and the growing burden brought about by inserting are spurring traditional and new suppliers to the industry to present new solutions. The impression at ANPA!TEC ‘87 was that American newspapers are now eager to evaluate these solutions and take advantage of them whenever suitable. The kind of interest that visitors displayed at ANPA/TEC ‘87 cannot but originate from a realistic assessment by its suppliers of the industry’s current needs. As usual, IFRA presents a compendium of what the undersigned ,authors have considered to be of special interest at the Exposition. As usual this overview, due to the size and the scope of the event, has no ambition to be exhaustive. We hope that our members, most of whom have attended the annual IFRA, will appreciate the complexity of the task. Those who will attend IFRA 87 will see much of the equipment described here. For those who have not made definite plans yet, please note the date: Amsterdam, RAI, from October 12 to 15.
