‘Newsroom Leaders’ initiative from the World Editors Forum India Chapter and WAN-IFRA, is a module based training and mentorship programme, aimed at improving the knowledge of editors and journalists.

The programme will develop future-ready newsroom leaders help news publishers create a pool of talent for the future.

The previous editions saw participation from leading publishers including Ananda Vikatan, Dainik Bhaskar, Malayala Manorama, Prajavani, Sakal, The Mathrubhmi, The Hindu, The Times of India, Sambad and The Daily Prothom Alo, Bangladesh and The Associated Newspapers (Ceylon), Sri Lanka and Ujyaala Radio Network, Nepal. The participants gained insights about journalism trends, challenges and improved skills to face changing media  landscape.

All the modules are lead by best-in-class trainers and address the new and changing needs of the readers, the skills needed to engage them with the publisher's brand and the ways to gain advantage over old and new competitors.

Newsroom Leaders programme will have the following Modules in 2020;

a) Dynamic Journalism, 15 June, New Delhi

b) Creating High Impact Investigations, 16 June, New Delhi

c) Audience Engagement, 17-18 June, New Delhi

Module Leader : Kevin Anderson, Former Executive Editor, Gannett Newspapers

c) Advanced Data Mapping for Journalists, 22-23 June, Chennai 

Module Leader: Rakesh Dubbudu, Co-founder, Factly media

d) Newsroom Leadership and Change Management, 24-25 June, Chennai

Module Leader: Eric Ulken, Product Director - Newsroom Tool, Gannett-USA Today Network, USA and One of Table Stacks leader.

WAN-IFRA South Asia, headquartered in Chennai, started its operation in 2001 as a private limited company registered under the Indian Companies Act. But the origin of IFRA in India dates back to 1992 when the services of IFRA, with only an Annual Conference, were offered in this country through a representative office.
