NEWS PUBLISHER: L’Alsace (France) -- YEAR: Since 1994 -- PROJECT IN BRIEF: Journaliste d’un Jour invites secondary students to contribute their own articles to a special youth-targeted edition produced by L’Alsace. Participating students were given the tools (computers, telephones, etc.) to do the reporting and were supported by the newspaper. At the end of the contest, the newspaper selected the best articles, photos and other contributions to be recognized with prizes.

YEAR: 2006 -- PROJECT IN BRIEF: For this project, students were asked to come up with 10 questions he or she would ask a famous athlete or politician or other public figure in an effort to win the chance to interview the person. As part of the "Young Readers Contest" a panel of judges picked the three best potential interviewers. The three winners interviewed a person of their choice and the story was published in the newspaper.

NEWSPAPER: Notes -- YEAR: 2006 -- PROJECT IN BRIEF: The Student-to-Newsroom program aims to give students a first-hand experience of being part of a live newsroom. The sponsoring newspaper, Notes, created a platform that allows the newsroom to function as an educational tool and to create a better understanding of the media in the country. At the American University of Sharjah, UAE, they sought to help to train students in the journalism program by providing assignments from the Notes Editor. Students then complete the assignment, and the stories are then filed and published in Notes.
