World Printers Forum
The World Printers Forum (WPF) is an organisation of newspaper printers and suppliers within WAN-IFRA. Its objective is to encourage innovation and productivity as well as product development that can be instrumental for publishers to exploit future oriented news media products. It promotes the power of print and the sustainability of print production.

2016-04-05 12:01Lisle, IL, March 31, 2016 – As the largest newspaper in the upper Midwest, the Minneapolis-based Star Tribune has chosen an innovative strategy to deal with controls and electronic obsolescence issues on their current press equipment. Star Tribune’s success in building a regional print center – printing multiple daily and weekly newspapers – compounded the need to upgrade and make current the press controls on their Headliner Offset Press. In an effort to stabilize their press system for the foreseeable future, they needed a controls system which would allow their presses to be highly utilized and perform reliably, meeting their challenging production needs. 2016-04-05 11:04Würzburg, 24.03.2016 – The Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA) financial statements for 2015 underline the press manufacturer’s successful group realignment within the past two years. At €1,025.1m group revenue met its target of over €1bn. The decrease in revenue compared to 2014 (€1.1bn) was the result of the security press business and lower sales in the Digital & Web segment due to the realignment. CEO Claus Bolza-Schünemann: “We made good progress with our strategic goal of increasing revenue in growth markets packaging and digital printing and thus reduce our dependency on the cyclical security business and media-driven publication printing. Packaging now makes up some 70% of group revenue with new presses, followed by security printing at around 20%. Media exposure now only totals around 10%.” Read more ...

The International Color Quality Club is the only worldwide printing quality competition for newspapers and magazines. Its goal is to improve the quality of reproduction and printing in production, while also increasing competitiveness as well as training and motivating all personnel.

The Materials Management Database project was launched as a spinoff of the Newsprint and Newsink Guide. Today it is used by printers, pressroom foremen and technical management as an information source for facts and advice for dealing with the materials used in producing newspapers. Among other informaton you find the specification of the WAN-IFRA Bar Code for paper reels in this online database. Most of the entries in the database originate from the members of the Material Management Committee; some come from outside sources (as marked), after review and approval by the committee. This database is continually being updated and expanded. New entries will be marked with a label in red type.
