    03.12.2015 – Shorter setup times, maximum reduction of manual plate handling and cost reduction in plate production: These were important reasons for Südwestdeutsche Medienholding (SWMH, Stuttgart) to completely modernize the plate production on 3 print sites. In the course of the year, Süddeutscher Verlag Zeitungsdruck GmbH (Süddeutsche Zeitung), Pressehaus Stuttgart Druck GmbH (Stuttgarter Zeitung, Stuttgarter Nachrichten) and Druckzentrum Südwest in Villingen (Schwarzwälder Bote) have not only exchanged all their existing CTP-Systems in favour of new high performance machines but the plate logistics including the register punching, folding and sorting have been be updated in accordance with the latest universal standards. As Technology Partner, NELA has developed concepts tailored to every print site’s individual need. Overall, SWHM has ordered nine new high speed register punching- and bending systems of type VCPevolution HS800 as well as extensive plate transport and sorting systems. Read more ...

    14.12.2015 – A KBA Commander satellite press with an hourly output of up to 90,000 full-colour newspapers has been in operation at Coldsetinnovation Fulda in Eichenzell, Germany, since 2010. The highly automated press that was extended in 2011 consists of three reelstands, three printing towers, a KF 5 folder and numerous add-ons for inline finishing. A few days ago the longstanding partnership between KBA and the printing company in Hesse expanded with an extensive service agreement. Siegfried Wahl, assistant vice-president and technical director at Coldsetinnovation Fulda: “We have worked successfully together with KBA for decades and are extremely satisfied with the performance of our Commander and the service support received. With this service agreement we aim to increase the production reliability and efficiency of our press further.” Read more ...

    Chicago, IL, 16 November 2015 – Gannett Publishing Services on behalf of The Indianapolis Star, IN, (anchor publication of the Pulliam Production Center) has awarded Harland Simon a contract to replace their Jervis Web Roll Handling system which allows for the maintenance of an inventory of newspaper rolls within the warehouse, storage bins and roll preparation areas. In November users and experts came together at the invitation of KBA- Digital & Web Solutions AG & Co. KG, part of the Koenig & Bauer group, for the 11th annual KBA Cortina User Workshop.     Oosterhout, 3rd December 2015 – Mathrubhumi Printing & Publishing is one of the largest newspaper publishers in the Indian state of Kerala. One of its fourteen printing plants, in Calicut, has three Japanese TKS printing presses. Recently, the organisation decided to expand its production facilities with a fourth new TKS. Through effective communication with the customer, the printing press manufacturer and various agencies, Q.I. Press Controls was able to present Mathrubhumi and TKS with a convincing argument for the mRC-3D colour register. The result: Mathrubhumi asked TKS to have the new printing press fitted with the Q.I. Press Controls’ system. Seeing as this was the first time Q.I. Press Controls has worked together with Mathrubhumi and TKS, the organisation is hopeful of a successful partnership. Read more ...

    December 2, 2015 – The global market leader for webfed offset presses, manroland web systems GmbH, takes a successful turn in 2015. Sales revenues are expected at about 240 Mio. EUR in total. Order intake for new machines will amount to approximately 140 Mio. EUR and, therefore, represents a significant increase compared to 2014. As a result, the worldwide market share will exceed 40%. Managing Director, Jörn Gossé: “The company’s earnings before tax (EBT) will be positive as well, expected at a median single-digit-million EUR amount. Due to the raised order intake level further improved profits are expected for 2016. Our growth is based on market share gains still in a stagnating market environment. For this reason, the International Federation of Audit Bureaux of Circulations, founded in Stockholm in 1963 and now with members in over 36 countries, has announced a rebranding strategy. It will become the International Federation of Audit Bureaux of Certification to reflect its holistic approach to media measurement following the mass digitalisation and diversification of the media industry worldwide.
