The European Daily is a project for a daily newspaper that relies on a new concept. As Project Manager Daniel Freund, one of the three founders, explains, The European Daily should “fill a gap in the newspaper market, offering daily news reporting, analysis and opinion from a European perspective”.

The European Daily preview edition.

The newspaper has set itself ambitious objectives: By gathering some of Europe’s and the world’s best writers and columnists, bringing together some of the most respected opinion leaders, the European Daily should offer high-quality content (in the English language), presented in a reader-friendly, classic layout. The 24 pages in full colour in the Berliner format will be produced Monday to Saturday with an initial print run of 75,000 copies and sold for a copy price of 2.50 Euros. The launch date of the newspaper is planned for early 2012.

The European Daily concept has been tested both online and in print, with “overwhelmingly positive feedback”. Online test versions were published in 2008 and, in a revised version, in 2010. A preview print edition with 40 000 copies was published on 15  June 2011 and distributed in Brussels, London, Paris, Berlin and a some other European cities. Details about the funding of the project have not been released yet.
