Online advertising is destroying itself. And it is doing so in a way that will fatally undermine online publishers’ sustainability. Intrusive advertising is forcing users to use ad blocking as they browse the Web. Last year's PageFair/Adobe report revealed that ad blocking had grown: to 144 million people. (See The Economist chart attached, using PageFair data). This year the upcoming report will show a vast increase in these numbers. Publishers are losing revenues, and this will get worse as Apple introduces blocking to iOS9. This presentation will talk through the figures, country by country. It will discuss two key issues: a) the causes, and b) possible responses to ad blocking for the industry.
