In the course of the year, Süddeutscher Verlag Zeitungsdruck GmbH (Süddeutsche Zeitung), Pressehaus Stuttgart Druck GmbH (Stuttgarter Zeitung, Stuttgarter Nachrichten) and Druckzentrum Südwest in Villingen (Schwarzwälder Bote) have not only exchanged all their existing CTP-Systems in favour of new high performance machines but the plate logistics including the register punching, folding and sorting have been be updated in accordance with the latest universal standards. As Technology Partner, NELA has developed concepts tailored to every print site’s individual need. 2015-12-17 13:1614.12.2015 – A KBA Commander satellite press with an hourly output of up to 90,000 full-colour newspapers has been in operation at Coldsetinnovation Fulda in Eichenzell, Germany, since 2010. The highly automated press that was extended in 2011 consists of three reelstands, three printing towers, a KF 5 folder and numerous add-ons for inline finishing. A few days ago the longstanding partnership between KBA and the printing company in Hesse expanded with an extensive service agreement. Siegfried Wahl, assistant vice-president and technical director at Coldsetinnovation Fulda: “We have worked successfully together with KBA for decades and are extremely satisfied with the performance of our Commander and the service support received. With this service agreement we aim to increase the production reliability and efficiency of our press further.” Read more ...

The newspaper industry is under pressure globally. While in the West, decline of the newspaper has been rapid, in the East, newspapers will probably survive for longer. However, there are several pressures on the newspaper industry in the East as well – competition from digital readership, increasing input costs, reducing advertising spends, and so on. In such a scenario, it is important for newspaper industry players to collaborate to improve internal operational efficiencies across the industry. Through such an effort the overall industry will stand to benefit. With this objective in mind, an industry-wide benchmarking exercise was carried out to identify specific improvement opportunities across players. The result has been extremely encouraging. This report details out the methodology and findings of this benchmarking exercise.
