The World Printers Forum (WPF) is an organisation of newspaper printers and suppliers within WAN-IFRA. Its objective is to encourage innovation and productivity as well as product development that can be instrumental for publishers to exploit future oriented news media products. It promotes the power of print and the sustainability of print production.

2016-05-23 12:2123.05.2016 – Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA) has finalised a Letter of Intent with Officine Meccaniche G. Cerutti S.p.A. (OMGC) in Casale Monferrato, near Alessandria, Italy for the 100 per cent takeover of its Spanish subsidiary Iberica AG S.A. in Barcelona. Iberica with some 60 staff produces medium and large-format flatbed die-cutters for board and corrugated packaging without own manufacturing facilities and until now has mainly been active in Europe and in some overseas markets. The integration into the global KBA sales and service network would greatly improve Iberica’s growth prospects. The planned takeover underscores the press manufacturer’s announced focus on the growing packaging market. KBA’s sheetfed segment is the longstanding market leader in folding carton printing. Its international customer base for sheetfed offset presses and die-cutters is largely identical. 2016-05-20 09:5420.05.2016 – A renowned German media house has opted once again in favour of a triple-wide compact web press from Koenig & Bauer with the in-vestment in a further 6/2 Commander CT. Configured with two reel-stands, two 6/2 towers and a folder, the press is expected to come on stream in summer 2017. The company’s print capacities will be ex-tended by the press’ maximum rated output of 45,000 full-colour, 48-page copies per hour. Publishing manager Siegmund Radtke: “Along-side its reliability and print quality, the Commander CT’s ultra-short job and pagination changes were what persuaded us to purchase this press again.” Read more ...

2016-05-19 14:09Würzburg, 19.05.2016 – Alongside the company’s figures for 2015 and the first quarter of 2016 (see press releases from 24.03.2016 and 12.05.2016), the agenda of the 91st Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA) AGM looked at the positive results achieved through the Fit@All programme completed at the end of 2015 and the press manufacturer’s focus on growth markets. 2016-05-18 13:05Oosterhout, 18 May 2016 – The leading Colombian newspaper, Vanguardia Liberal, is to fit its printing presses with automation equipment supplied by Q.I. Press Controls (QIPC). A major national daily, the newspaper has placed an order to install an mRC-3D system for register and cut-off control on its recently acquired Goss Universal 50 press with 12 towers. The trend toward consolidation of newspaper printing centres is slowly coming to a halt, says consultant Sabine Sirach. After all, for printed daily newspapers, there are physical limitations to the distribution distances that can be covered while still being up-to-date and relevant.

The International Color Quality Club is the only worldwide printing quality competition for newspapers and magazines. Its goal is to improve the quality of reproduction and printing in production, while also increasing competitiveness as well as training and motivating all personnel.

The Materials Management Database project was launched as a spinoff of the Newsprint and Newsink Guide. Today it is used by printers, pressroom foremen and technical management as an information source for facts and advice for dealing with the materials used in producing newspapers. Among other informaton you find the specification of the WAN-IFRA Bar Code for paper reels in this online database. Most of the entries in the database originate from the members of the Material Management Committee; some come from outside sources (as marked), after review and approval by the committee. This database is continually being updated and expanded. New entries will be marked with a label in red type.
