2017-08-01 08:01Chicago, IL, 31st July 2017 – Harland Simon has been selected to supply a second phase controls upgrade to the Goss Uniliner press at Butler Eagle, PA. This upgrade will involve replacing three RotoVision PCs and two drive ControlLogix PLCs to remove obsolete components and future-proof the press. Screens will be replaced with additional Prima PressNet control screens (see picture), which means that all press control functions can be accessed via Harland Simon touch screens. The ControlLogix processors in the press control rack will also be upgraded along with the central maintenance and diagnostic capabilities via RS Logix 500 software (by Allen Bradley) to enable quick fault finding and maximise up-time. 2017-07-31 12:33(UPM, Helsinki, 31 July 2017 at 14:00 EET) – Following its Biofore approach, UPM Paper ENA has reached the next significant milestone in the company's sustainability journey, as now all its mills produce papers that are awarded with the EU Ecolabel. The UPM Hürth paper mill completed the full range on June 5th, when its products received the EU Ecolabel certificate. The newspaper industry is under pressure globally. While in the West, decline of the newspaper has been rapid, in the East, newspapers will probably survive for longer. However, there are several pressures on the newspaper industry in the East as well – competition from digital readership, increasing input costs, reducing advertising spends, and so on. In such a scenario, it is important for newspaper industry players to collaborate to improve internal operational efficiencies across the industry. Through such an effort the overall industry will stand to benefit. With this objective in mind, an industry-wide benchmarking exercise was carried out to identify specific improvement opportunities across players. The result has been extremely encouraging. This report details out the methodology and findings of this benchmarking exercise.
